Description

The maps on this page represent the stars from Piazzi's Star catalog described on the previous page. The general features of the maps are described on the historical catalogs page.

Piazzi's stars are represented by black disks and labeled by their number within the right ascension slice, which can be inferred from the coordinates at the edge of the map. The Bayer-style letters and star names assigned by the catalog are also represented. Letters (without index) and star names assigned to more than one component are only represented once, for the brightest one.

Due to the density in some areas, some stars could not be labeled. This happens in the Pleiades, in NGC 6231 close to ζ Sco, and maybe in Praesepe.

The nineteen maps below cover the celestial sphere except the southern cap. The southernmost declination reached by Piazzi's catalog is -46°20'53.70", for star XVII.125.

These maps represent the same data as the maps by constellation, but they are delimited by equatorial coordinate lines (of the B1875.0 equatorial coordinate system, the reference for constellation boundaries). They show star labels in all constellations at the same time. They use the stereographic projection as well.
